Forth Valley Colleges propose a new campus on a town centre site, currently comprising areas of parkland and wood, set on a hillside location offering extensive views to the north and south. The landscape design approach retains and reinforces a parkland setting of simple clarity to the new college, through the retention and modification of existing areas of parkland, coupled with the creation of new areas of parkland character utilising a simple, limited palette of materials. Tree removal requirements open up the character of certain areas of the site, allowing views to the new building from the surrounding area. A distinctive grass mowing regime is applied to the site, comprising areas of regularly mown amenity grass with a formal and managed character, and in other areas, wildflower seeding creates areas of longer grass, providing a greater level of seasonal interest and contrasting with the more managed lawn areas and bankings of ground cover planting. Awarded a Civic Trust Award 2013.
