h+m were appointed by Morrison Construction to provide landscape design input to the submission of a planning application for the redevelopment of a new national centre for sporting excellence at the SportScotland centre at Largs. The site forms part of a former estate landscape, being well wooded and with a complex series of historic terraces and level changes throughout.
The design proposals included strategic site planning input to the layout of a new entrance and access court to the new building, suitable to the turning of coaches, a separate public car park/access and a segregated service yard. Layouts were developed which retained important mature trees and other landscape features, whilst the extensive earthwork design reflected the historic terracing of the site to accommodate particular existing and future uses. An outline specification of hard and soft landscape treatments and tree and soil protection measures was prepared and submitted in support of the planning application, which was approved in 2015.
